A Figure of Speech
Figurative language: idioms, metaphors, similes, and the like, can be one of the most difficult aspects of language for English language learners, and children with hearing loss, to master. How can we help children learn, understand, and use nonliteral language in a way that is natural?

Thanks for the tips– was wondering WHY kiddos who are hard of hearing have difficulties with figures of speech??? Any insight appreciated!
I think it is due to a few factors:
Reduced access to incidental language + conversation partners not using this type of language (whether consciously or subconsciously shying away from more complex kinds of talk)
