Gain is the amount of intensity (loudness) a hearing aid (or other amplifying device, like a loudspeaker or microphone) adds to the incoming sound signal.
If a person’s hearing aids do not have enough gain to make sounds loud enough to be heard (and understood!), it might be time to try a more powerful pair of hearing aids or investigate candidacy for a cochlear implant.
